Kanye West - All Falls Down (feat. Syleena)

There are points in my life when I look back to when I first really started to get into Kanye. It was just before Graduation came out. I downloaded all the Kanye I could and let it roll on repeat for weeks. Then Graduation came out and I let that roll on repeat, pretty much until My Beautiful Dark Fantasy came out. I sometimes miss his straight up hip-hop.

Lil’ B - Base For Your Face (feat. Jean Grae & Phonte)

Well, if you haven’t discovered Lil’ B yet, then well… here ya go. He’s barely older then myself at the age of 21, and he has over 1500 tracks. Now you can imagine with that much music there is a lot of crap, but every once in a while something floats to the top (please excuse the analogy). This track is one of them. Here is some Base For Your Face! Start Cookin’!

Mos Def - World Premiere

Childish Gambino - Be Alone

Aiight, I’m gonna throw down some Donald Glover. Of course you know him from the hit NBC show Community (is it on NBC?), but did you know that he is also a rapper? I listened to his mixtapes and his LP, they were good, but nothing to write home about. So, yesterday he released his self-titled EP, and I downloaded it. Gotta say, I’m a pretty big fan, I listened to it 3 times in a row. His references are on point, his flow is smooth, and his beats are decent. All in all worth the download and listen.

Kanye West & Jay-Z - H.A.M.

Despite the questionable name for a single, it’s actually… well what you expect. It’s musical schizophrenia. This is the first release of the new album, Watch The Throne, coming from the hip-hop legends in March. There is quite the hype cause if it’s anything like what they did on Monster and So Appalled it’s gonna be quite unbelievable. Listening to this track though, that’s not so hopeful.

H.A.M. = Hard As a Mothafucka

Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On

Lupe’s single is finally out for his long awaited album, Lasers. It’s pretty aiight. It is a Modest Mouse sample, and it is Lupe Fiasco, so it really can’t lose.

Kanye West - Good Friday (feat. Common, Pusha T, KiD CuDi, Big Sean & Charlie Wilson)

Ok, we’re a bit behind on our posts. I say this as if you haven’t noticed we’ve been absent for the past 4 months. Even now when I’m catching up I’m posting a two week old track.

So, if you haven’t heard yet. Kanye is releasing a track every Friday. It’s good Friday. There have been some legendary tracks dropped so far: Monster, Devil In A New Dress, Runaway Love (Remix). Over all Kanye fans have been pretty hyped. Yesterday he just dropped So Appalled, which, to be honest, is too long, but other than that a pretty dope track. This track here was released a couple weeks ago and I would have to say its the best Good Friday track so far. That’s why I’m posting this instead of So Appalled. Word is all of these tracks are a lead up to an album that he is doing with Jay-Z that should be released in November sometime.

John Legend & The Roots - Wake Up Everybody (feat. Common & Melanie Fiona)

FUCK YES!!

Need I say more? I guess I should… This is pretty much gonna be the greatest album of all time:

- an album by John Legend & The Roots

- inspired by Arcade Fire

- covers of old soul songs

- Available Sept. 21

FreeSol - RockNRolla

So, I am not entirely sure how I feel about this track yet. Cause I really love the sample, but I just don’t know if they used it perfectly. That’s probably just my producer brain acting up. For the most part its an enjoyable track from a band that are new to JT’s label. Czech their mixtape here. I haven’t listened to it yet, so I can’t tell you if its worth the download or not.

The Roots - Right On (feat Joanna Newsom & STS)

So I FINALLY got around to listening to How I Got Over, and I must say… I love it! I mean they are my favourite band and it took me 10 days to be able to listen to it. I will probably listen to it a few more times if I am not rudely interrupted by Skype again. Jeez Kat, I only had 20 seconds left to go on the album.

Anyways, inside jokes aside. This is probably the greatest sample I have heard in a while. Not only is it just a wicked Joanna song, but, in true Roots style, they made it better. Other indie notables include the girls of DP, and as we have already told you Monsters of Folk (worst band name ever?).

Drake - Find Your Love

So I realized we have never actually done a blog post on Drake. I think that is mostly because most about him is hype, but I do like some of his stuff, such as this track. I listened to his album, Thank Me Later, recently and it’s alright. It’s got some high spots some low spots, but for the most part just an overall plateau of alright. I’d have to say where it really shines through is this track. The beat for this is just unreal, a Kanye beat no less, and it’s uber catchy. Kind of a guilty pleasure, but its not really guilty when its legit (aka Kanye production).
